Azam Rehman,Thakurgaon:: A mobile court has sentenced a tractor driver to seven days in jail and fined him Tk 50,000 for illegally extracting sand from Bazardeha Tangan river in Pirganj upazila.

A mobile court headed by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Tariqul Islam on December 31 sentenced a tractor driver to 7 days imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000. It is learned that sand was being illegally extracted from Bazardeha Tangan river of the upazila for a long time. On Thursday, the local people seized the tractor with sand and informed the concerned. Upon receiving the news, the police brought the arrested tractor and driver to the police station. When presented in the mobile court, Executive Magistrate Tariqul Islam sentenced tractor driver Sanjay Dev (31), father Hemant Dev, Village- Alampur to 7 days imprisonment and fined him Tk 50,000 under the Balumahal Act 2010.
